astounding 158 of Canada's 228 species of freshwater fish. Here are some of the

Northern Pike Tips -

if there is a trick to removing the skin from a northern pike, especially since
there is a bit of extra knowledge required to get rid of those nasty Y-bones.
The answer is: not really.

Aurora Brook Trout - The Aurora
Brook Trout was originally found in the Montreal River system and the Ottawa
River. They where almost all near instigation when reintroduced to a couple of
Lakes in the Temagami District in Ontario. Ontario traditionally stocked nine
northern lakes with aurora trout to provide limited sport fishing. Fishing was
allowed on two or three of these nine lakes each year on a rotating basis.
Aurora trout in these lakes do not reproduce. Allowing a limited recreational
fishery raises the awareness of this important fish and does not affect the
long-term recovery plan for them. The Ministry of Natural Resources and
partners have spent the past two years developing a recovery strategy for
aurora trout. The primary long-term goal of that strategy is to maintain a
self-sustaining population of aurora trout in two lakes near Temagami, where
they are once again reproducing naturally. These lakes are designated as
year-round sanctuaries. Brood stock is being maintained in a lake near Kirkland
Lake that is closed to fishing to preserve a separate source of eggs for the
future.
Black Crappie - Once found only in
certain limited waterbodies in southern and northwestern Ontario, the black
crappie's range is now spreading faster than any other fish species in the
province. A fast growing, delicious panfish, the number of one pound slabs that
swim our waters is simply mind-boggling! Black Crappie Ontario Record 3.78
lbs.
Brook Trout - As a rule, not many anglers
around the world can consistently measure their speckled or brook trout `by-the
pound'. In parts of Ontario however, rules were made to be broken! Here,
anglers consider a two or three pound brookie as just "another nice fish". With
their delicate markings and brilliant hues, brook trout are often considered
the most beautiful of all freshwater gamefish. Brook trout are widely
distributed throughout the province - in small streams of the south, in cold,
small lakes of central Ontario and in brawling rivers of the north. Whether you
like to toss a fly to a brookie that will be measured in inches, or cast a
spinner to one challenging our own 14.50 pound world record, Ontario is the
place for you!
Chinook Salmon - Ontario's side of the
Great Lakes produces world-class salmon fishing on the doorstep of Canada's
most populated metropolitan region - the Greater Toronto Area. To fish the
Great Lakes you can haul your own big-water boat, or use the services and
expertise of an experienced charter boat captain. Millions of salmon stocked
into Great Lakes waters every year help to maintain this outstanding fishery.
Chinook Salmon Ontario Record 45.38 lbs.
Lake Trout - Jumping Caribou Lake
Temagami lake trout fishing. Trout are a fish of tradition. Many trout
enthusiasts consider the pursuit of trout to be the purest form of fishing. The
lake trout is by far the largest of the trouts. It lives in deep cold lakes in
the Temagami and Marten River area of northern Ontario. It feeds on virtually
all forms of flesh which abound in its home waters. Minnows, smelt, eels and
any variety of small fishes are part of the lake trout's diet. It's rich flaky
flesh makes it a tasty table favorite. Lake Trout Ontario Record 63.12 lbs.
Lake Whitefish - Rabbit lake
Temagami whitefish Fishing in Ontario. Lake Whitefish provide exciting fishing
on light spinning gear. In spring, whitefish can be best caught in the river
mouths / current flows on minnows. Through the summer, they retreat to deeper
water and are very elusive, but in the fall, they re-appear in shallow areas
(gravel bars, shoals, current flows) and feed voraciously. Lake Whitefish
Ontario Record 14.77 pounds.
Largemouth Bass - Largemouth
are found throughout southern Ontario and even in parts further north. Canadian
largemouth may not grow to world-record size, yet the sheer number of 2-6
pounders in many water bodies more than makes up for it. Often overlooked by
local anglers, there are many parts of the province where big bucketmouths
rarely see a lure. When they see yours - be prepared for a bone-jarring strike!
Largemouth Bass Ontario Record 10.43 lbs.
Muskellunge - Ontario's muskie fishing
is so phenomenal, that it is not a question of whether Ontario will produce the
next world record, but exactly when and where in the province it will happen.
World-class fish are caught every year from several water bodies. In other
areas not known for producing record-breaking fish (just incredible numbers of
10-30 pound fish), seasoned muskie anglers just laugh when they hear their
favorite gamefish referred to "as the fish of a thousand casts". Careful
management utilizing high minimum size limits, very low possession limits and a
strong catch and release ethic among anglers, will help Ontario remain as the
world's premier muskie destination. Muskellunge Ontario Record 65 lbs.

Temagami smallmouth bass fishing. They are most easily caught during a feeding
spree but can be enticed into striking an anglers bait for reasons other than
hunger. While the smallmouth only grows to about half the size of the
largemouth, it is much more agile, faster and powerful for its size. It eats
pretty much the same foods, just smaller specimens. It is without argument one
of the finest game fish an angler can pursue. The thrill of the frantic runs
and jumps are the source of many a fisherman's dreams. Join us in fishing
Temagami area lakes. Smallmouth Bass Ontario Record 9.84 lbs.

for many years. Walleye (Pickerel) Ontario Record 22.25 lbs.
